Here's a nice example of plate tectonics affecting sea level. During the violent 1964 Alaska earthquake, the landmass at Resurrection Bay near Seward suddenly dropped 6-12 feet. Salt water intrusion killed the trees near the shoreline, resulting in a "ghost forest"...
