Absolutely. The only question is whether these Dems are smart enough to actually realize they hold all the cards and whether they have the balls to go toe to toe with Republicans in the spin game. Here's how the spin machines might go.

Bush: "You won't pass a reasonable spending bill. So you aren't supporting our boys and girls in the war. You're going to leave them underequipped so they die on the battlefield. This is another example of your cut and run policies, leaving behind a haven for terrorists."

Congress: "We passed not only the $100B you requested, but $20B more than you requested. We are carrying out the mandate of the American people who, in a sweeping gesture, elected Democrats into the majority in both houses, precisely to scale back this war in the short term. The real culprit who is putting our boys and girls in harms way is you, President Bush. Your actions in prosecuting this war were not only misleading, based on the casus belli you presented at the outset, but demonstrated extreme incompetence during the course of the war. The results have been increased tensions throughout the whole Middle East and the rest of the world, a fragmenting of our alliances which go back 60 years, civil war in Iraq, wholesale destruction of the previously stellar reputation of the United States, profligate spending resulting in unprecedented budget deficit and debt levels, loss of focus on domestic issues such as healthcare, imigration, social security, Homeland Security, US economic competitiveness, and oil independence. And worst of all, you've created a culture of cronyism, corruption, a rolling back of civil rights, and a blatant disregard for the founding principles enshrined in our constitution.

Lay aside your obstinacy and admit your failures. Bring our troops home by March 2008, and in the mean time, here's $120B to make sure they get home safely. The choice is yours. Will you veto our Iraq spending bill and put our troops in a situation where they are underequipped or will you pass the bill and give them the equipment they need to get home safely by March 2008. The majority of Americans, which include both Dems and Reps, expect your signature on this bill."
