Did you notice the use of the present tense?

Look, I remember when the Shah, our sweet little puppet, was thrown out and our embassy was taken. The reason the Shah was overthrown was that he was hated by the people whom he was oppressing, and we supported him in his oppression. Is it an act of war to take the people in an embassy hostage? Yes, it was then and it is now. So what? It isn't a justification 25 years later to declare war on Iran.

I have no idea why this is coming up, but if you want to talk about Iranian history, fine- I'm game. I just don't think it has much to do with an attack on them now.
