New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg could wait until as late as April 2008 before declaring his candidacy for president and still have time to collect enough signatures to get on the ballot as an independent.

State laws require independents or third-party candidates to collect at least 700,000 signatures to get on the ballot in all 50 states, while Democrats and Republicans need just 25,000 and 20,000 respectively, according to Richard Winger, editor of Ballot Access News.

"That’s an extreme difference,” Winger told the New York Sun. "But the advantage of being an independent is that you can sit around and do nothing for quite some time. I would say he could afford to do nothing until April 2008.”

In 1992, independent candidate Ross Perot didn’t begin collecting signatures until the spring before the election, and he got on the ballot in all 50 states.

Bloomberg has publicly denied that he will seek the presidency. But earlier this month former Bloomberg advisor Ester Fuchs said the mayor is 80 percent likely to run if the Democratic and Republican candidates emerge from the "extreme wings” of their parties

"I say nuke 'em all."

Likely there are far more effective strategies to achieve spoliation of their goals... and achieve OUR OWN strategic goals....

But, yes. Coddling them, and actually defending nations and people who act *against* us and our interests, are NOT smart policies to follow.
