They don't have to respond in kind to Iranian actions, but they should point out that if the Iranians don't observe the Geneva Conventions in regard to British soldiers, the British will not feel obligated to observe them with regard to Iranian soldiers. How the Brits actually treat any Iranians is up to them, but they shouldn't observe a treaty with a country that violates the treaty. There has to be some penalty for not following these treaties, or they rapidly become meaningless.
