Heck why go back to 1953, when 1988 rather more than made up for the embassy hostages, to the tune of 290 (although 38 were non Iranians) when a $1B piece of hitech gear (junk?) run by superbly trained morons mistook an Airbus for an F-14, LOL!

Of which a few points of interest are:

1)"I will never apologize for the United States of America — I don't care what the facts are" in reference to the incident. Bush Sr, then VP.

2)The unclassified version of a Congressional report of a U.S. Navy investigation headed by Admiral William Fogarty did not accurately show the location of the USS Vincennes some 2 NM (4 km) inside Iranian territorial waters.

Most likely we would not want to point 2 out very much at the present time. Precedent is not a good thing! LOL!

" they want to be left alone as we do."

correct, they haven't invaded another country for hundreds of years...they just use their proxies...but that's not war, is it?

financing hezbollah and hamas which, in turn, wreaks havoc not only in Israel, but Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq et.al---purely defensive, huh?

financing the Kobar Towers murders and various other stealth attacks in and around the planet...all of course, to defend their borders.

using their proxies to murder soft targets such as resort areas where foreign exchange was desperately needed, now gone ( and this to their Islamic brethren, most of all )....yes, a definite offense against the enlightened sensibilities of the Mullahs.

the list goes and will go on until the Mullahs are out and the overwhelming, goodly people of Iran seize control one way or other.

I see that as not a political happening.

So let it be April 7th or April 17th because we all know it ain't gonna happen per the blogosphere.

What would you do with Hamas and Hezbollah? Other than relocate Israel to New Jersey?

I don't buy your "left alone" premise.

What we did in 1953 was wrong but the Shah was very popular up until the last 10-15 years of his reign. Corruption became endemic and the Secret Police took on the Soviet character. He should have returned the country to democracy and didnt. If he had, the US intervention wouldnt appear as bad. As i remember there were serious problems with the regime that was to take power in 1953, but again overthrowing democracies should never be US policy.
