The nutritional content of most things deteriorates quickly if kept at room temp. Storing the foodstuff at refrigeration temp is better and freezing is much better.

I have seen studies performed on animals feeds stored at various temperatures.

I once worked on animals that were fed autoclaved diets and they had serious nutritional problems if the food wasn't stored in the freezer prior to autoclaving.
