a) Their cars pretty much suck.

b) They're stuck having to pay huge retirement benefits.

c) Labor unions have GM and Ford by the balls.

Meanwhile, even Japanese cars are getting bigger and bigger. Today's Honda Civic used to be yesterday's Honda Accord. My wife used to drive around a Nissan Sentra, a very basic compact car that can barely fit four adults. These days, the Nissan Sentra is a huge five-passenger car with all the amenities and comfort of a family sedan.
