It certainly is irrelevant to any overall view of the strategic handling of the Iran-Iraq war. Iran-Contra was a dumb idea, but it in no way contradicts what I've been saying - that the US, with the support of all the Gulf, worked to extend the Iran-Iraq war. That mostly means supporting the weaker party (Iraq) but it can mean the occasional sale to Iran too, depending on circumstances.
