The guy with the truckload of mobile phones was arrested because he looked Middle Eastern and in Iraq they use cell phones to set off IEDs, so it wasn't about free trade or capitalism, it was about terrorism. I've interacted online with people who supported the arrests -- they're woefully ignorant and always will be.

In the meantime, the guy was let go, and law enforcement officers all over the country were informed that it's not against the law to buy cell phones in bulk. That won't stop the woefully ignorant, but against stupidity the Gods themselves contend in vain.

Speaking of stupidity -- a tariff on glossy paper isn't exactly the return of international trade barriers. Glossy paper isn't exactly the backbone of the Chinese economy. The Chinese seem to violently over-react over trivial matters. Makes them look silly.

Elmat,

If US is declining for the last 40 years, then how come it is propping up its rivals in a conscious manner? Japan, Germany, and South Korea were developed primarily by their trade relationship with and military protection by US.

Nixon consciously made an effort to develop diplomatic relationship with China. China's trade with US is an important factor in its growth.

Outsourcing to India was lead in the 1980s by Citigroup and Unisys. GE took advantage of outsourcing to Indian IT companies throughout the 1990s.

Who released mobile phone, GPS, and internet technologies for commercial use?

"Wall along the Rio Grande, tough visa conditions..."

No to the first, yes to the second... I assure you it's quite easy to enter the US from the southern border. My mother lives 8 miles from Mexico. There are certain when the crossings are quite dense and the border patrol is quite absent.
