I think you can look at Germany as a fairly good model- doctors routinely prescribe herbals in Germany, and herbals are often much safer than other kinds of drugs, and sometimes have hundreds of years of use. I have found some herbals to be fantastic. I don't take the iffy ones that have any history of side effects, and so far I've been very very pleased. I didn't really mean the spiritual component- I was talking more about the herbal medicines the ayurvedic doctors and chinese herbalists use. They certainly aren't 100% safe, but with some due diligence I think they can add a really nice arrow to your quiver.
