Russia needs big army=>needs lots of young people.

Russia needs friend nation-states -they have to seek them very very far from where they are, because their immediate neighbors are not their friend.

What's happening are those smaller countries such as Hungary and Czech in 10 years will be as rich (and as boring) as today's Austria.

The EU put those showcases right at the door steps of Russia and they have that delirium of grandeur that only past empire have (note the nationalism) and the Russians have to react.

Delirium of grandeur is very bad. Some of the affected nation-states

English

Chinese

Iran

Israel

Japan

Those are countries that drive looking to the rear mirror rather than looking through the windscreen.

Brazil doesn't have those -dubious- "glory" to look back and is not hampered by delirium of grandeur. It is at an advantage vis a vis those great powers of yore.

NOTE PLEASE: I am trying to include here a competitiveness of nations based on those psychological effects nation-states have to deal with.
