re: Then tell me what kind of bulbs I use to replace the clear glass "flame bulbs" of a dining room chandelier.

Without knowing more, I can't tell you. They may or may not have a solution, yet, but if mandated they will.

re: Or those of a bathroom vanity, which right now use the clear glass spherical kind.

They have them is frosted... a huge sacrifice.

re: Or old classic lamps where only the old pear-shaped bulbs will fit.

You can get them but it's not easy... if they are mandated it will be easy.

Regardless, it's a big step up from hot, dirty and wasteful incandescent bulbs. You can pick your color temperature and you don't have to change them every six months. It's progress.

re: Go ahead and support the ban on light bulbs, hypocrite. I'll support those who think we should ban smoking altogether because it burdens the health care system with higher costs.

Maybe, but we save on SS because we die earlier!

There are CF equivalents to those. Walmart carries them. I even found a replacement bulb for the fixture in our freezer. Not that power was a concern, but the floor in that room has some give and the filaments would break when you had the freezer open and my youngest decides he is a jackrabbit and starts hopping around.
