I'm probably the last person who should weigh in on this since nearly every color used at the top of the pages is in the spectrum that's simply "brown" to me. But slightly varying shades. But I personally prefer the background coloring the way it is now. From darker to lighter on the way to the meat of the page. I think the other way around would be somewhat visually jarring. In an area that needs to be visible but innocuous because we tend to be focused a few inches down from the top of the page.
