SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Nokia Corp, the world's largest mobile-phone maker, on Thursday said it has paid chipmaker Qualcomm, Inc. $20 million for the use of third-generation patent licenses in the second quarter.
Qualcomm, however, dismissed the amount paid by Nokia as "nominal" and filed an arbitration demand seeking to force Nokia to pony up the full amount due under the current agreement between the two companies, which expires on Monday.
The move is an escalation of an increasingly nasty legal battle between the two companies over patents and licensing fees.
