Just get information from the executive branch. That is silly. Many congressors go traveling around the world to develop their own ideas on what's a good idea. Personally, I think politicians just love a good overseas junket and I'd ban the whole lot, including POTUS and his flunkies. New Zealand has a thing called overseizure. Because nearly everything is overseas, NZ being so tiny, politicians are constantly wasting fortunes in travel, discovering something, then coming home with the stupid idea that the same thing would be an excellent idea here. They have a seizure! An overseizure. "Monkey see, monkey do" is their level of thinking. They want to justify their junkets so need to come up with something. Preferably something which will be an excellent monument to them. Hence many white elephants in NZ. A recent one was some idiot seeing the London Underground, which is an excellent thing, and saying we need one here in Auckland. There are legions of Kiwis who have traveled in the Underground, so he wasn't discovering something. But he obviously didn't consider little details such as Auckland is a volcanic field and digging through frozen lava is seriously hard work. Digging through the pleasant materials under London is a doddle. Then there is the population - 1 million in Auckland, 12 million in London and 50 million in the country arriving by train and plane and 100s of millions in the vicinity also arriving and needing transport around London. Not to mention narrow streets from historical London. Don't forget GDP per capita either. Another stupidity the politicians have is that we need economies of scale, so we should import lots of people. It doesn't occur to them that India has lots of people and Switzerland and Luxembourg don't. Lots of countries with lots of people are in desperate poverty. Switzerland, Singapore, and other small countries don't seem to be on the brink of bankruptcy and in fact are doing very very well. Back to the congressors, I guess you know that Republicans go junketing too, not just Nancy. Strange though it might seem to you, it's possible to live in one system and imagine others. That's how progress happens in myriad ways. Living in a parliamentary system doesn't mean the idea of separation of powers is unintelligible high-end maths. We also have separation of powers. Which is obviously a puzzle to you but it's as simple as 1 + 1 = 2. Mqurice
