I've decided to think of things in terms of new opportunities. With the decline of the short-lived fossil fuel era, there are many opportunities for new ways to live and work.

It seems to me that people are commuting longer distances, traveling more and are sucking up electricity like crazy. We seem to be in some kind of overdrive in terms of energy use. It reminds me of the hyper stock and housing markets as they peak.

Maybe this is our energy consumption peak before the big thud.

I look forward to shorter or nonexistent commutes, little 'smart' (aka bumper) cars, children walking (gasp) to school and a resurgence of main street and vegetable gardens. There's a great deal to look forward to when the era of 'big is beautiful' goes down the tubes.

:)
