OT: Auto parts going into Japanese assembled cars do not come from "lowest bidder". Imo, and experience.

A key difference between Japanese and American auto suppliers has been the difference in number of suppliers. Japanese companies in general, strive to work with fewer suppliers, and once qualified, the suppliers work with these Japanese customers to improve quality and pricing.

I'm not saying that Toyota/Honda/etc. don't beat on their suppliers for lower prices. I'm saying they generally will not offer business to several similar suppliers with a view to picking the lowest bid. Companies like Toyota seek long-term relationships with their suppliers.

Again, that's my experience and understanding (when I benchmarked these companies 15 years ago -g-).
