Isn't this whole discussion rather pointless now? so, let me get this straight--until now, you, Cheney, and the Weekly Standard have been on the soapbox about how necessary this invasion was because of ties between Sadaam and Al Qaeda, how the former was going to give the latter access to all of his WMDs, but then the WMDs don't show up, and the story changes to, well, he wanted to give them to al Qaeda to attack the US for him with no fingerprints, and would have done so if we hadn't attacked because they were working together, and now the story changes again to really, this whole discussion is rather pointless now, isn't it? Nadine, I don't believe that you're stupid. But you do a good impersonation of someone who believes everyone who disagrees with you must be a fool. you don't deny that Baathists and al Qaeda have been closely joined in the Sunni insurgency, do you? I don't deny that al Qaeda people are in Iraq now. And have fought with Sunni insurgents. However, I have never seen a report from Iraq which suggests that there are more than 1,500 al Qaeda people in Iraq. Most of the reports I've read say that the number is around 1,000. And the reports I have read over the past 6 months or so suggest that the tensions between them that have been there all along have finally erupted to a point where Iraqis are killing the foreign al Qaeda people. Baathists were never "proper" Muslims as Al Qaeda people define it. Indeed, they were secular. Yes, I know, you will say that Sadaam had started to "get" religion to help cement his rule. Even if that is true, he and al Qaeda were still enemies. They may have had a marriage of convenience for awhile, but it was destined to end badly for one or the other of them. You just want to link Al Qaeda to Iraqis so that at least that justification of this absurd invasion would hold up. No, it doesn't hold up. Face it, Nadine, this invasion was insane from day 1, and remains insane. If Bush and Cheney had any sense of honor at all, they would have resigned long ago. If we had a parliamentary form of government, they would have been gone long ago. I'm watching Bernard Trainor along with Dexter Filkins and David Halberstam on C-Span talk about the hubris of the Bush adm. Yeah, I know, they all must be traitors and a fools who just don't understand true American interests, lol.
