"the less you know, the better off you are." Which is why I only go to the doc when I am sick enuf to scare mice elf...like a temp of 103 for 3 days.

My grandfather was into the natural world enuf(he exhibited his insect collection at the SF World Fair in '39) that he probably would have read about Arrhenius's theory, and thought that it would have merited further study. He died in '66; the study began about '68, by Reville.

"The world has/will evolve in a natural manner to deal with a situation that shows up in that persons lifetime."
But GW is not a naturally created phenomenon, it's a man-made one. (Easy cop out is to say our actions are part of the natural process). The natural manner was to sequester greenhouse gases as coal, oil, natural gas. We have intervened in that process by releasing it, much faster than nature normally does...about 14 months of fossilized carbon is now getting dumped in the air every day. (Every year, we burn the fossil fuels that it took the planet 400 years to sequester).
Eventually, and maybe even right now (Siberia, Beaufort Sea), natural processes will start; outgassing of CO2 and methane from land (especially the tundra) and the ocean. Positive feedback loops we won't be able to stop. The idea is to prevent that from happening by minimizing our impact on the system. Hansen thinks we have 10 years; 9 now. The Bear Flag Republic (and Ore, Wa, NM, Ariz, and Minn) is taking action. It's time for the rest of the US to do so.

And, the effects are showing up, right now, in our lifetime.
