Few years back, working in the bush in Mali. they promised to bring me into the capital, Bamako, every week-end. Thanks, but no thanks, Bamako was most polluted I had ever seen.

Asked questions of a gov. official at public meeting about preferred method of reclamation. answer "we have signed all the protocals" asked again in a different way, same answer. an old timer translated for me "he says do whatever the eff you want, but officially we abide by all the rules"

As Canadian, US and Australian mining companies move into the undeveloped countries, conditions improve IMO. But enviro movement does not agree. From www.mineyourownbusiness.org the well meaning folk who inherited all their money and joined the env. grps are unwittingly conducting a war on the impoverished of the world.
