The display of indices needs a time and date depending on when it displays.

Throw it out for ideas.

I think time alone is OK and anyone would know that is during the day (which usually only end at 4:00 PM or 1:00 PM (a few days a year).

A date, when the market has closed, is good because sometimes there's a weekday holiday such as last Friday.

So a date means closed and what day it refers to, useful for a screen shot. A time means the market is open and indicates what the delay is to real-time, if any.

If there's room, show both.

If there's room, show "Trading Halt" and the time, when markets close due to high volatility that hits the triggers.
