Japan's Dominant Mobile Wireless Technology

mQ,

<< Today, CDMA is the dominant technology in (only) 3 global markets of any consequence -- the U.S, Canada, and Korea, and GSM has a major presence in two of those markets. ... Japan? >>

Sorry. Not Japan. 3GPP UMTS adds an asynchronous 'W' to your favourite synchronous mediumband acronym.

The dominant technology in Japan is WCDMA (fka VW-40) where it was invented. San Diego's CDMA has, however, passed PDC which was the dominant technology in Japan a year agp, but is being rapidly left to smell the smoke from DoCoMo's and SoftBank's vapour trail.

Today, CDMA, which is slowly becoming Toast on the global stage, is the dominant technology in (only) 3 global markets of any consequence -- the U.S, Canada, and Korea, and GSM has a major presence in two of those markets.
