Which is why most Jews don't want it discussed. Really? I'm quite sure this fellow was Jewish. Strange how we remember such obscure conversations. I remember the bar and the guy because you went down a short flight of stairs to get to it, and there were couches and easy chairs all around, with magazines, coffee tables and so forth. The waiters brought beer in bottles, and when they were empty they smashed them into a garbage can to save space. That was a very fine summer for me. I haven't been in all that many bars, but I've never forgotten that one.
