"Some how, I can't picture the two of them together." Be that as it may --- it's still pretty clear that he was one of McCain's biggest allies while in Congress... and supposed to be personal friends. (My main point was though, that if Thompson DOESN'T GET OUT on the hustlings pretty damn quick --- heading for that 'magic number' of maybe '$50 million' in campaign contributions by fall --- then he AIN'T seriously in the running for the number one slot. So, that could still leave him as a viable number two.) My speculations aside... everyone will know will know whether he is running for #1 within a very few months.... Won't be long before that answer is in.
