In the UK, "JCB" is synonymous with "any excavation equipment" like "Bobcat" is synonymous with "any skidsteer tractor" out here.

When I was telling them about the backhoe, they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Had never heard the word. When I described it, they said "Oh, a JCB!", to which I replied "Well, JCB makes them, but this one's made by Case." Was a long a predictable conversation.
