the dopey W-CDMA proponents put it in 2GHz where it takes a LOT of base stations to fill the aether, aka provide

Not so dopey, they sold a lot of base stations. This was very big reason that NOK got a license in 2001 - it needed one to sell infra.

And once the infra is sold, the seller is an inbumbent supplier, not a bad position to enjoy.

>>I have seen so many examples of totally stupid false <<

Nokia has a great PR machine. It is obvious they spend a lot of time and effort, meetings, discussions etc on the BS, and on getting top billing in the press with very little rebuttal allowed.
Two of their better efforts:
#1: It is not QCOM vs Nok but QCOM against everyone, or rather that everyone loves Nokia and hates QCOM:
With MOT and so many others refusing to join Nokia this should be easily rebutted yet not one analyst draws this conclusion. And how many more of the Nokia competitors as well as the Euro operators and Korea as a country are on the despise Nokia train.
#2: Nokia today did a great job of "cooling the mark", by stating in effect that nothing is wrong. No analyst has yet to make the connection that Nokia is attempting to set a dangerous precedent in business that it is okay to steal another's property if you think that it is priced too high.
