MW - Why should China even bother with 3G? Why does anyone in China actually NEED it? China Mobile now has more mobile subscribers than there are people in the US and its all GSM.

It was only the Olympics that was the impetus for 3G. Now it looks very much like there will be no 3G for the Olympics and if there is it will be the wonderful TD-SCDMA that no-one ouutside of a few Chinese subscribers many of whom will have been given the devices (if there are any) will use.

After the all important, centre of the entire Universe, vital to the future of humanity Olympics Games comes to its uniquely forgettable end, China will still have probably the best mobile phone system in the World and sadly most it based on GSM (even though I am a happy customer of that system) and all the hundreds of millions of Chinese who use their mobiles to talk to eachother will be as happy and satisfied with the system as they are now.

Best,

L
