Yes, it does. The housing ATM has contributed to the earnings of the companies. Not to mention the money from the ATM that has been directly put into the stock-markets.

Saying that the carnage will be limited to the narrow sector of builders and lenders is like saying that the damage would be limited to internet stocks in 2000. In fact, one can make a stronger case for the decline in stocks based on the housing decline than for the decline in stocks in 2000 following the bursting of the internet bubble.
