Can you fill in the details on this statement... You think that the evangelicals wouldn't be stoning women for adultery if they took over America. The possibility of evangelicals taking over the US is very low. There have been times when a much greater percentage of the US populace were practicing Christians, yet by and large they co-existed with secular laws. Didn't they burn witches last time they were in power? "Witches" have never been executed since the US has been a sovereign nation. There was a bizarre incident in Salem during the colonial era where a number of people where hung, the governor of the colony (himself a rather religious man..) interceded and stopped the "trials". That was more than 300 years ago. In the interim the US freed slaves, gave women the right to vote, produced aircraft, automobiles, TV, developed the internet.. so a few changes in the interim. Islam at least in the Middle East and Pakistan seems to be going full bore in the opposite direction. Hell I read that one could see women in mini-skirts at the University of Kabul before the Soviets invaded Afghanistan.. Osama Bin Laden allegedly used to get into drunken fistfights over barmaids in Beirut in the 1970s. Pass the KoolAid. The irony of that phrase, in the context of your discussion, is that its origins came from the Jonestown massacre, Jim Jones was a staunch lefty. (Not that dispensing cyanide laced (not Koolaid..) Flavoraid has anything in general to do with the left) Noam Chomsky would never debase himself in such a manner.
