FWIW, I also get shrugs whenever I bring up the subject with friends I consider "financially aware."

I called my ex broker who is a friend of mine last week and asked if any of his clients were in U stocks. Response was no!

I sent out the NYT article on the uranium boom to my investment club about a week ago. I offered to share some ideas on U stocks if anyone was interested. No response received.

..and the benefits of belonging to the club are......?

Beer and wings once a month perhaps.

Up until recently, I attended a weekly dinner meeting of a special interest club, non-financial, but involving a general BS-fest in which any topic was fair game. I'd mention my PMs whenever investment topics turned up, and would get smirks and rolled eyes. No telling what uranium would elicit.

NC ;o)

Yeah, I get yawns, and worse, whenever I talk about it. One very smart fund manager I know called the "uranium play" (his words) "mature." (meaning, it's played out, and all downhill from here)

On the other hand, a friend who runs a hedge fund is hyperbullish on U, and has been pounding the table for about two years now. He thinks we're in inning two.

You must not be in Canada. Up here our business press talks about Uranium and other mining enterprises constantly. When a phone in occurs it's mainly mining companies, particularly juniors that everyone wants to know about.

Embry and the other Sprott managers are on almost every week to discuss mining and resource stocks. Everyday there's a segment on them.

We even talk constantly about oil and gas stocks.

What a difference a country makes :-[)

So what does your club consider a good investment these days? Are they oblivious to gold as well?
