When the mafia controlled much of Chicago and took "protection" money from the local businesses, what happened to those who stopped paying? The were attacked by the mobsters who were the problem, and who were getting paid to not be bad. When they wanted to stop the problem the police had to take the mobsters out of the equation.

Carter was wrong to stop paying the protection money without having a plan to prevent the mullahs from going back to Iran and inciting violence against our SOB. Even if he had treated them as a police enforcement problem like Clinton did Al Qaeda, it would have been better than just letting the chips fall where they did.

The Shah was a mixed bag. Would you say that in retrospect was better than the islamic imperialists who now control Iran?
