we are not asking for a Constitutional amendment to ban hate speech.
No. You simply want to starve those who engage in what YOU deem "hate speech", while ignoring as bad or worse from your own side,

Unlike people on the right that want to ban abortion, gay marriage, etc
FYI, that's SOME, not all. Are you going to say there have been no leftists who wished ban any speech they disagreed with? I can point to examples right here on SI.

Free speech is something different.
Free speech is NOT something different. You just didn't like what Imus said and want him silenced.

If you're saying Imus' speech is entitled to be viewed in the same way as rap music, I'd tend to agree with you.

If you're saying the market should decide whether rappers or Imus make money on their speech, I'd also agree with you.

I'm unaware of "people on the right" who are "asking for a Constitutional Amendment to ban hate speech."

If you have a problem with the P.C. police, I suspect you'll find most of them in your own ranks. Ann Coulter opens her mouth about a Democrat public figure and the entire left has the group vapors.

The ironic thing is that a lefty like Rosie O'Donnell, for example, who espouses 9/11 conspiracy theories and who wants us to *understand* terrorists because they're just moms and dads, fell all over herself defending Imus.

In December, Rosie O'Donnell used a mock Asian-sounding language while co-hosting ABC's "The View," to describe world reaction to an episode of public drunkenness by actor Danny DeVito. Despite protests from the Asian-American Journalists Association and other ethnic groups, Miss O'Donnell continued to host even as she criticized fellow ABC personality Kelly Ripa for "homophobic behavior."
