So much for the comments by that not so brilliant analyst for Nomura, Richard Windsor, who labeled NOK's $20MM payment as a "strategic master stroke." NOT.

If anything, the offer to pay a fraction of what is due Q was a pretty stupid move. It not only highlights the absurdity NOK's present position in this dispute, but also highlights the ill advised tactics it will resort to communicate its position to the marketplace.

(QCOM ) yesterday notified Nokia that it has rejected Nokia's $20 million payment and the accompanying multiple pages of terms upon which Nokia conditioned its payment.


I think this says the distance between the parties is quite large. To send a "payment" with unilateral terms (not even having any semblance to what the other party wants) is just basically baiting and name calling and spitting in the face. It cannot in any way be considered an offer or testing of waters.
