The link you provided shows US oil production at 7.61Mbpd, while the Wikipedia peak oil picture shows it at about 5Mbpd now. I assume the difference is because they exclude some regions (Gulf or Alaska). The seem to define Peak Oil theory as only applying to "easy" oil, not exotic methods or unusual sources, so by definition it should work. Unfortunately, when viewed from say 1920, the techniques common now would have been "non-easy", so it still leaves me with unease regarding definitions.
