Look, the reality is that there were a lot of people who skipped the Vietnam war. People who got deferments through college, or influence, or who served in the Guard before the Guard became dangerous.

Then, there were those who couldn't get deferments, and were drafted, and went and served. These people should be rightly honored, although it wasn't their idea in the first place.

Then, there were those who COULD have skipped, but didn't. Those people belong at the top of the honor roll. Kerry was one of those, and the smearing of that service will continue to dog the GOP for decades to come.
