There would be nothing funny about the comment if it was said as an insult.

There is nothing funny about the comment literally.

What is funny is that IMUS and others like him purposely push the envelop as far as they can because they know that "some people" will get all riled up or "shocked" about it even though the whole purpose of saying it was to rile people up and shock them. Don't take this personally, but what would have made me laugh was knowing that there are people like you out there getting all upset over a joke that was designed to get you upset to begin with (or shock you).

It really doesn't matter who the insult is directed at.

For example, South Park makes fun of Jews, Jesus, Mormons etc... at least a few times every season. I'm sure there are people out there that go nuts about that. Even though I'm a Catholic, I laugh just as hard at the Jesus jokes because I know they went to the edge on purpose.
