smb- we own everything, you own nothing. You need hundreds of our patents we need none of yours since your patents are fully paid and we can have them for ever for nothing, our patents are never paid up and you have to pay us for ever.

If a fraction of what NOK said in todays press release is true then the Q enginers are insane and so is its top managment. I am will to bet that no-one in Q is insane.

These Finns are the best.

Best,

L

Nokia believes that Qualcomm is currently using over one hundred of Nokia's GSM/WCDMA and CDMA2000 essential patents in its chipsets.

A hundred? That isnt nearly as many as I would have guessed <g>....

Nokia's request for royalty payments from Qualcomm is based on royalty levels which are fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND).

How much does Nokia collect from Via for CDMA2000 chipset sales and how much do they collect from Agere or another WCDMA chipset company without much IP? If the answer is zero, I have to tell you that this doesnt look very FRAND'ly. In fact, it would look a lot like Q's current attempts to extract value out of their GSM/GPRS/EDGE patents.

Re: Juvenile Nokia

I am embarrassed for Nokia. While it is unclear whether they are in fact engaged in meaningful negotiations with Qualcomm, or merely proclaiming that they are, their public airing of talking points is neophyte pathetic.

Dialogue?

Noise.

If they had a strong case, they wouldn't be making so much noise.

I especially like the whine about blowing $35 billion on R&D. Hilarious.
