I agree that it does not help our racial relations; Imus's statement is a testament to what is wrong with the way blind insults are hurled in the media. Here you have a group of mainly African American women who are doing something really positive in their lives, who are in college, who made it to the final game in the NCAA tournament (quite an achievement), who have many talents outside of their success as basketball players, and along comes a no-nothing radio host, who sits there and mutters insults all morning, deriding them as some sort of street criminals. That is outrageous and terribly insensitive.

There are still plenty of media outlets for the angry white male to vent his misguided anger. Actually, Imus' program was never really that sort of talk show, but there are plenty of them around like Rush, Sean Hannity, and plenty of local ones etc.
