Agreed. Their families' relative prosperity helped to save them from being railroaded, but as far as driving the accusations or unethical prosecution, it was merely coincidental. The presumption is white + Dukie = rich and privileged. In some cases, it is true. I knew plenty of kids of the rich and powerful at Duke. But many more were/are purely middle class. These guys were targets because the crazy stripper picked them out of a rigged photo line-up, made up entirely of white Duke LAX players. That their families were relatively well off was presumed along with their guilt.
