Whitewater was a totally frivilous witchhunt to try and get some dirt onm Clinton before the 2000 election so they could use it to stop Gore. Clinton was so successful and good for the country the rightwing knew they couldn't beat him or Gore unless they cheated. And boy did they cheat. They also cheated in 2002 and 2004. Some cheating in 2006 but they knew they were being closely watched in 2006 so they kept it to a minimum.
