Garden,

I could be wrong and there will be many , here, to correct me but one of the "give you" components provided for in the Barak-Clinton peace offer was a provision for the Pals to assume some vehicle of control or joint partnership with Israel re: East J. I believe there was a time frame attached to it.

I believe it's still there despite the frenzied nays of ortho Jewery. But the offer has always been there and always will be and the gov't who makes the deal with the Pals over E.J. will be trumped. Majority rules in Israel. And though there are those components you worry about in the far right of Likud, they are fringe and marginalized ( as long as Hamas and Hez do not give the people of Israel a reason to flock to them ...big IF with Hez and Hamas arming themselves to the teeth in opposition to treaties signed and sealed between Abas/Fatah and Israel...here, i speak of Hamas, in particular ).

It's also true that the vast majority of Israeli's ( as well as Pals and Christians) hold all of Jerusalem close to their hearts. yet, most Israeli's know this will have to be on the table if there is ever to be any chance at peace. I think it should be as well.

If I was king of the planet I would have E.J. an open city to all. The first decade being under the auspices of a UN type force with teeth to observe, and protect ( especially themselves ) all at large.

BTW, WW3 is over. We're now on the brink of WW4; some say, as I do, we already are.

For a true peace Jerusalem could be divided because in a true peace access to all holy places would not be restricted and the Western Wall would not be used as a urinal as it was during Jordanian days. Getting to true peace is the problem. Any such deal would have a Panama canal type date off in the future to guarantee that jews and arabs could live together for a time without terrorism, wars etc.
