Michael you said "Israel is a Jewish state in the same way that SA and Syria are arab states." Not so Michael, for the comparison to be correct, the SA and Syria would have to refer to their identity as an Islamist(religious connotation) state, and they do not refer to themselves as such. Israel is the only state which bases its identity on religion with the exception of Iran, which calls itself the "Islamic" Republic of Iran. That's the right comparison.
