IMO, Imus should have: 1.Reiterated that his comments were a bad joke, which he regretted. 2. Made a prompt public apology and even sent a private note of apology to the team. 3. When pressed for more, declined interviews and grovelling, instead stating that he regretted making the insensitive remarks, has apologized, and that continuing to beat the dead horse just ensures that more people hear his ill-advised remarks, which is of no benefit to the team. or words to that effect.
