doug, Pete already has the escape clause. AMD can (in principle) outsource 90 nm to chartered. Since AMD does not legally own the chartered fab, it doesn't count as an AMD facility. Personally, I do not believe that Chartered can produce high bin 90 nm opterons. But that is another argument altogether.

However, there is a more relevant issue. If AMD's APM was effective at 65 nm, they should have released a 2.7 GHz part by now. Or at least, shown availability of the 2.6 GHz.

Obviously, AMD engineers are not asleep, since they did release a new Opteron 90 nm higher bin. I can't believe they are not trying their best for same on 65 nm.

Do you recall in the past how long they go without making any visible progress on a new process node ?
