I look for links at the bottom of comments, not in the text above.

ROFL. Yeah, the link I included was simply *buried* in text.

{political off-topic stuff} ...

Take that elsewhere.

it becomes apparent that the slide Doug was trumpeting included stats from chartered's 90nm production and may also have included UMC production.

Indeed it does, and it makes clear that the Chartered contribution would be insufficient to "truthify" Pete's 65nm misstatement, even were it all 90nm in 2008, and woefully insufficient to truthify his 45nm misstatement.

UMC production? Huh?

This is the AMD board. It's a "home" for people interested in AMD. If someone wants to call the baby ugly, it's certainly OK (shorting is a legitimate investment strategy) but it should be done with a bit of tact and a little consideration.

No, Dan. This is an investment board. Long and short. There is no bias toward a long fan club mentality, as the SI Admin made clear.

>> You may not be old enough

I am. And I remember. The tables turn in really alarming ways. Don't they!

>> I'm frankly looking to get back in at a "blood in the streets" price like the one we saw a few years ago.

I am not. I don't like the current management.

>> I think the ATI buy was a mistake and that AMD's facing a rough patch,

It was more than an ordinary mistake. The price paid is crippling to the point that a restructering is needed. The longer it is delayed, the deeper the whole will be to dig out from.

I have harped on this excessively. But without a competitive fab process, even a brilliant processor design will not compete well.

I don't think ATI was a mistake...I think by the end of this year ATI/AMD solutions (Video/CPU/Chipsets) will start to look better and better. If AMD and Intel have roughly the same performance CPU's what do you think the tie-breaker will be with OEM purchases...inquiring minds would like to know? :>)))

OT :
// Remember when the Republicans were the fiscally conservative/responsible party? You may not be old enough - I go back to the Eisenhower days... //

Eisenhower's last words on leaving office :
"The American people have to be watchful that the military don't end up running the country" .. or words to that effect !

IMO ... that's already long been the case !
