12 foot ceilings in a shop? Sounds like it's not in the basement, like mine. Most houses have less than 7 foot basements, so I feel lucky that mine is 7 1/2.

LOL. I have friends who say they are rightwing Republicans. When I talk to them about global warming they kinda sorta still don't believe it. When I talk to them about Unions they go ballistic. When I talk to them about singlepayer healthcare they likewise go ballistic because they think that if people want better healthcare they should work in higher paying jobs for better companies....I pretty much look incredulous on this point.

They aren't fundamentalist (agnostic and maybe even aetheist), they believe in civil rights and they think everyone should be in civil unions. They hate Bush, they hate Kerry, they really hate both Clintons, they don't like McCain and they don't know much about Obama.

When I go into details (using numbers and percentages and the like) on the various issues like health care costs and Iraq war nonsense and the like, they tend to stop talking. We then change the subject. Luckily politics and economics and foreign affairs only comprise about 1% of our discussions.

:)

IMO. Rightwingers like my friends are simply not paying enough attention to the nuts and bolts. If they did, I think they'd be conservative Dems and 'conservative' only because they have had experience with people who were lazy and always wanted a handout from someone. They liked the things that Reagan supposedly stood for but they never paid much attention to what he actually did and how much it has cost us all.

Ignorance is sometimes bliss but it is almost always rightwingism.
