I never said that. I said they were afraid of us after we cleaned out the Taliban in 6 weeks.

When we cleaned out the Taliban we had mutual interests with the Iranians and they had a "somewhat" reformist President along with a large and vocal reformist movement. Our military had done in Afghanistan in 6 weeks what the Russians had failed to do in 6 years.

So our military gave us more leverage than it had ever before and the Iranians had a desire to open negotiations. The Iranians even TRIED to open a dialogue.

Bush just BLEW THEM OFF and went ahead with his BRILLIANT PLAN for invading, reforming and making a good buddy out of Iraq in 6 months.

The Iraq invasion and Bush's "it's our way or the highway" diplomacy helped to bring the fanatical right-wing religious guys back into power in Iran.
