Hello Foundation, i was perusing the archives of news paper clippings and such in my possession, and came upon an advertising sheet of the Peking Gazette dated May 22 1917, an English language paper owned by my grandfather. In it is an advertisement for Ford (the logo looks as it does now) Touring Car, priced at 1,000 taels of silver, or 1,200 ounces, or in current USD 16,800 (price for a stripped down Ford, at current depressed silver price). Sure beats fiat paper money, because had one held on to that equivalent in Chinese fiat currency dating to 1917, the pile would have gone to zero value ... let me see ... at least twice, maybe 5 or more times. On the same page was also advertised Russian 5% Internal Liberty Loan with a 55 year term :0) That would have been an equally worthless investment. Out of the pile of possibles, the Ford Touring Car and the silver dollars would have been worthwhile to keep around, and the Ford more so, had one been able to keep it in good shape. This maybe why investing in perpetual calendar grand complication watches can be a good bet.
