It's funny- in the New Yorker last week there is a cartoon of two little girls (red riding hoods), and one calls the other "bitch"- by way of a salutation. The little Red Ridinh Hoods are white, so it's not a racist thing, but it sure made me think about the culture of crudity that has swept this country. I appreciate some parts of this new culture- it's nice to be able to have frank adult talks about bodily functions and sex, but on the other hand, the more entertainment mass market oriented side, I could do without. Not that I would ban rap, or shock jocks who want to call women hos, but I wish they had such limited appeal, they would just dry up and blow away.
